Leaving a wonderful legacy behind, Charles went to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 27, 2008. He passed away at home surrounded by family and friends. Charles was born May 18, 1940 in the Saron Community, Angelina County, Texas, to Delia (Dykes) and Minferd Harris, the fourth child and second son.

Charles attended and graduated from Zavalla ISD and later served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged in September 1964. He was then employed by Lufkin Foundries and at this time met the love of his life, Patti Snider. They were married in the Pollok Baptist Church. He later worked for United Parcel Service for many years, and ultimately retired from International Paper.

A true outdoorsman, Charles took great joy in the land, in its beauty and its bounty. A Christian all of his life, he was a member of Falvey United Methodist Church in Wells.

Charles is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 44 years, Patti Harris of Lufkin; his daughter, Michaela Norris of Danbury, her husband Taylor and his grandson Reagan, his pride and joy, who he fished and hunted with; mother, Delia Dykes Harris of Lufkin; brothers, Bill Harris of Longview and Ray Harris and wife Billie of Zavalla; sisters, Joyce Rowe and husband Ben of Dallas, Teresa Summerford of Houston and Dr. Kay Harris of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; special uncle, Hosia Harris of Lufkin; his special dog, Pepper; and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Shannon Renee Harris; father, Minferd Harris; sister, Ann Hamor; brother, Herb Harris; and very special mother-in-law, Obra Mae Snider Bates.

Pallbearers will be Dan Ballard, Jerry Barker, Bobby Weaver, Ben Rowe, Boozer Herrington, Randy Havard, Joey Harris and Terry Harris.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Summerford, Joe Arriola, Tony Grimes, George Grimes, Tommy Harris, Cliff Harris and Dr. David Rowe.

Memorial contributions may be made to Falvey United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 40, Wells, Texas 75976, or Hospice in the Pines, 116 South Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

A bright light is shining in Heaven today, our "darling boy, our joy".
