DETCOG President's Award

News Release:

Newton County Judge, Truman Dougharty, received the Deep East Texas Council of Governments President's award for outstanding committee work at its annual membership meeting in Lufkin Thursday.  The award is given each year to the DETCOG committee member who has shown dedication, commitment, loyalty and interest is helping the citizens of Deep East Texas improve their way of life.

Judge Dougharty took office in 1999 following a career as a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety.  he has been a member of the DETCOG Board of Directors for nine years.  During that time he has served on thirteen committees and is currently chairman of the Regional Solid Waste Advisory Committee.

It was noted Judge Dougharty has worked hard to get his courthouse restored after it burned in 2000.  He has also worked tirelessly, making numerous trips to Washington and Austin, to get help for the people of Newton County who lost so much when Hurricane Rita devastated it in 2005.
