It was a historic day for Angelina College baseball. Former Runners and current T.C.U. pitcher Andrew Cashner was taken by the Chicago Cubs with the 19th pick of the first round.
"This really is our first 1st rounder," A.C. Head Baseball Coach Jeff Livin says. "(Clay) Buchholz was a sandwich pick. It's an honor, it's an honor for Cash for sure."
The Cubs must like Cashner as they drafted him last year in the 29th round.
Cashner pitched for Angelina in 2006 and 2007 as a starter. In his only season with T.C.U. Cashner raised his draft stock moving to a closer's role.
Livin sees another pitcher with big league potential, just like former A.C. pitcher and Red Sox rising star Clay Buchholz.
"He (Cashner) was more a work in progress," Livin says. "You could see the things were there, there was not doubt about that. But it was more of job for him and I'm proud of him for what he did to put himself where he is now. "
