Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus for Sister Mary Pius Yakimovicz, OP. Celebrant for the Mass will be Msgr. Xavier Pappu and Father Victor Brown, OP. Interment will follow in the Monastery of the Infant Jesus Cemetery. The ceremony is open to all Monastery friends.

Rosary was recited Monday evening at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus.

Sister Mary Pius Yakimovicz died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Monastery of the Infant Jesus after a short illness.

She was born Julia Irene Yakimovicz on May 22, 1924 in Glen Campbell, Pennsyslvania, the daughter of Gregory and Veronica Yakimovicz. She entered the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament in Detroit, Michigan in 1944, and shortly afterwards was sent to a new foundation being made in Lufkin, Texas.

Sister was a devoted and faithful member of the community and shared her many talents generously. She is especially remembered for the beautiful embroidery and sewing she did, making vestments and liturgical linens in the Monastery Cloistered Workshop for the churches who requested them. She is also remembered for her culinary gifts and for the devoted care she gave to the Monastery cemetery.

Sister is survived by her sisters, Nancy Nicholson of Indiana, PA, Mary Sibley of Clymer, PA and Anne Thibidoux of Johnstown, PA; brothers, Frank Yakimovicz of Sho-Low, AZ and Ky Yakimovicz of Ashland, KY; a number of nieces and nephews; in addition to her loving religious community.
