It's been one month since the Nacogdoches Police Department began authorizing the towing of vehicles for no liability insurance. The new ordinance led to a total of 72 vehicles towed during May. The tow truck was called when drivers couldn't produce valid liability insurance coverage. Of the 72 vehicles towed, 64 were released after insurance was obtained. The ordinance is intended to reduce the number of uninsured motorists involved in traffic accidents. According to the Nacogdoches Police Department, one third of the drivers involved in traffic accidents in 2006 didn't have liability insurance.
