New Business Comes to Lufkin

The Lufkin plant that was most recently the home of Armour Eckrich will soon have a new owner, and will once again be a source of jobs for East Texas workers.

The City of Lufkin announced a deal Thursday with Loggins Culinary LLC, a beef products business.

The plant, located near Ellen Trout Zoo, is already being reconfigured to open near the end of the summer. Lufkin Economic Development Director Jim Wehmeier says Loggins will fit perfectly in East Texas.

"It's additionally real exciting in dealing with them," Wehmeier said. "They're just good people. they'll fit well in Lufkin, we like the way they do business, and it's been a very good process working with them to try to bring this to fruition."

Loggins plans to employ roughly 85 people by the end of this year, 125 next year, and more than 200 by the end of 2010.
