Beth Waters, 74, of Lufkin, was born November 8, 1933, in Angelina County, Texas. She was born Mary Elizabeth Murphey, the daughter of the late Omie (Nick) and Clint Murphey. She passed away Saturday, June 21, 2008, in a Houston hospital.
Mrs. Waters was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a retired interior designer. She was past president of the Altrusa Club and past president of the Lufkin Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Waters was a member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church, where she served on several committees and taught Sunday School for more than 40 years.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Jim Waters of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Susan Waters of Olive Branch, Mississippi; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Tom Ryan of Richardson; grandchildren, Allison Waters, Lisa Walling and Loria Zitzelburger; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Lawrence of Angleton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ted and Mary Lou Murphey of Park Ridge, Illinois and Pat and Beckey Murphey of Dodge; several nieces, nephews and other family members.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Waters was preceded in death by her son, Robin.
Pallbearers will be Scott McIlveene, Charlie Kimmey, Mark Gray, Mike Free, Kent Walker and Clint Reed.
Services for Mrs. Waters will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Lufkin's First Baptist Church, with Reverend Raymond Dunkin, Dr. Andrew G. Pittman, and Reverend Bradley DuBose officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at Lufkin's First Baptist Church.
