Amateur radio operators spent their weekend participating in the national ham radio field day. Field day is a time for the ham's to practice and make sure they are ready in case a disaster moves through East Texas. In a time of disaster the ham operators can provide communication if phone lines are down or if emergency personnel need help. Radio operators throughout the country took part in the event. The Lufkin operators began at 1 o'clock Saturday and went until 1 o'clock today.
