Novis Wilkerson Rains

Novis Wilkerson Rains, 84, of Diboll, was born March 8, 1924, in Center, Texas, the daughter of the late Bertha (Smith) and Joe Wilkerson. She passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

Mrs. Rains was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also retired from K.S.T. Day Care Center as a caregiver. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and was very talented in working with crafts. Mrs. Rains was a member of First Baptist Church in Diboll.

Survivors include her daughter, Hellen Schmidt of Diboll; son-in-law, Nick Ashworth of Diboll; grandchildren, Robbie and Jay Kent of Lufkin, Chip and Lisa Schmidt of Diboll and Sherri and Shawn Rasmussen of Humble; great-grandchildren, Shey Turner, Josh Schmidt, Emileigh Schmidt, Shawna Rasmussen, Shelbie Rasmussen and Shelton Rasmussen; sister, Loyce Waley of Huntington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma and Billy Breazeale and Clara and Jerry Breazeale, all of Diboll; brother and sister-in-law, Joe Jr. and Ella Wilkerson of Diboll; brother-in-law, Joe Bridwell of Diboll; a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rains was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Rob Rains; daughter, Alice Ashworth; son-in-law, Vance Schmidt; and sisters, Maurne Bridwell and Ima Jean Anderson.

Expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Rains memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904.

Mrs. Rains' family wishes to extend their appreciation to her extended family at Trinity Mission of Diboll and Hospice in the Pines.

Services for Mrs. Rains will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Bro. Vic Bass officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
