Essie Moore, 96, of Lufkin, was born May 1, 1912, in Shelby County, Texas, the daughter of the late Susie (Rhodes) and Fred C. Bridwell. She passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Moore had been a resident of Lufkin since 1939. She was retired from Memorial Medical Center, where she was a nurse's aide. She was a devoted Christian, loved children and worked in her church nursery for 18 years until the age of 85. Mrs. Moore enjoyed working in her garden and kept her yard up until the age of 90. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sue Cromeens and Leon Hays of Lufkin; daughter, Nell Lakey of Longview; "special brother and domino partner", Joe Bridwell of Diboll; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a number of other family members.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. Moore in 1984; granddaughter, Becky Wells; sister, Viola Williams; and brothers, Byron C. Bridwell and F. M. Bridwell.
Pallbearers will be Charles Williams, Robert Burnes, Byron Bridwell, Leon Hays, Lee Winkelmann and George.
Services for Mrs. Moore will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Jimmy Hedges officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
