John F. Toomer
Graveside services for John F. Toomer, 94, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the Gann Cemetery, with Reverend Cary Modisett officiating.
Mr. Toomer was born September 7, 1913, in Woodberry, Texas, and he passed away Monday, July 7, 2008, in a local hospital.
Mr. Toomer was the owner and operator of Toomer Auto Parts for more than 30 years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Toomer served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of the 1857 Army Infantry, serving in North Africa and Europe as a Staff Sergeant.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Stephanie Edwards of Grapeland, daughters, Dorothy Powers of Evadale, Stella Frances Smith of Baycliff, Sylvia Carnes of Winnie and Sandra Edwards of Pollok; son and daughter-in-law, Timmy and Kathy Edwards of Magnolia; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Davis Martin of Longview; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mr. Toomer was preceded in death by his wives, Fay Toomer and Stella Edwards Toomer.
