Angelina County Jail trying to cut inmate food costs

By Mystic Matthews

High gas prices are also affecting the cost of food, and that is important to the budget for the Angelina County Jail.

Currently it takes about $3.00 a day to feed an inmate three meals, which Sheriff Henson says is great.

But by law they have to look at new contracts every two years, to make sure they are getting the best price.

"We have to have a dietician to approve our plan. We are trying to feed as much beans rice and cornbread as we can and you know that's just things we have to look at," says Henson.

The jail is also taking new bids on phone contracts for the jail.
