Oncor Energy is trying to raise its rates across the state of Texas, but Lufkin city officials are trying to stop it from happening here.
Tonight, the council approved a resolution to suspend the rate increase for 90 days, and join a coalition with numerous other cities to review the rate structure.
Oncor owns the lines that deliver electricity from TXU or Reliant to their customers. Now, Oncor wants to increase rates $275 million across the state.
Tonight's resolution gives the city 90 days to review its options and prepare for Oncor's eventual appeal to the Public Utilities Commission.
Lufkin City Manager Paul Parker says this will be a long process, but they are trying to keep costs down.
