COPY-Fatal Accident in Lufkin

by Christa Lollis

Five people were sent to a Lufkin hospital Wednesday afternoon after an accident on Highway 59 south in Lufkin. One of them died.

The crash happened just south of the Whitehouse bridge. According to Lufkin police, a Ford pickup towing a trailer made an illegal U-turn and clipped the back of a smaller Ford sedan.

When the driver of the sedan, Temple Carpenter III of Baytown, overcorrected, it caused the car to flip several times.

A five-year-old passenger, and 75 year old Bertress Allen of Gladewater were ejected from the car. Allen later died at the hospital.

The driver of the truck, Issac Milstid of Houston, wasn't injured. He was cited for making an illegal u-turn.
