NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches historians are pleased to see that a roofing job on one of the community's most historic buildings is near completion. The 'Old University Building' almost has a new roof. All that's left is the cupola. It doesn't look like a job people would be standing in line to complete. Workmen are tethered by ropes. Scaffolding is held in place by strong wires. Thanks to contributions there's the money to pay for the cedar roof on the 147 year old building. The Nacogdoches Federation of Women's Clubs leads the campaign. Members are now raising money for painting projects and a garden watering system. The tall building sets in the middle of Thomas J. Rusk Elementary, just blocks from downtown. The Old University Building was chartered in 1885 by the Republic of Texas.
