Unemployment rate up slightly in East Texas

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The unemployment rate is up across the board.

In Angelina County, 4.7% of the workforce is without work compared to 4.3% the month before.

All of Deep East Texas shows a 5.6% unemployment rate for June, compared to 5.0% in May.

Peggy Muckelroy with Workforce Solutions says that's typical this time of year.

"We have two colleges in Lufkin and Nacogdoches and those students are looking for work.  Plus bus drivers, cafeteria workers and all those are looking. It's seasonal."

Muckelroy also says that overall, Texas is doing great against the national average of unemployed workers.
