Kids in Lufkin doing mission work

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - It's like 'Extreme Makeover,' but without the budget, the glory and the glamour.

These kids are seventh and eighth graders, doing mission work through the First United Methodist Church.

This week, six central youth teams came to Lufkin to work outside and they paid $200 to do it.

This family's home is getting a new roof, something they otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford.

"It's a great opportunity for them, not only to spread God's love but to really get some new experiences for themselves. Most of these kids have never done anything like this and it's very eye-opening to them to serve in this way," says Center Director Ben Davis.

The kids and the church do fundraisers every year to help pay for the cost of repairs.

The kids say it's an awesome experience to help others who need it.
