South Texas Crops Suffer After Dolly

Harlingen, Tx (AP) - Hurricane Dolly is now Tropical Ddepression Dolly.

Forecasters say Dolly has weakened to a tropical depression with 35 mph winds as it moves north over Texas. Dolly was expected to break up by Friday.

Cotton and sorghum crops in South Texas will suffer from the after-effects of Hurricane Dolly. Analysts say the loss could be devastating for local producers but that it will have only a short-term effect on the markets. About 92,000 acres of cotton in the region was awaiting harvest until driving rains and high winds stained the cotton and drove the bolls to the ground.
