Hurricane Readiness

by Christa Lollis

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - East Texas dodged a bullet with Hurricane Dolly but when the next hurricane hits we might not be so lucky.

The Red Cross wants to make sure everyone's home is ready in case a hurricane hits this area. They recommend having a supply kit ready to go.

In that kit you should have 3 days worth of water, non perishable food, blankets, money, an extra set of keys and any other important documents.

Jeanie Miles with the Red Cross said, "We've been very lucky here that we haven't had to evacuate from this area but if you ever have to evacuate these are all things that you're going to be expected to provide for yourself. And if the power goes out these are the things that would be collected in one place for your use immediately."

The red cross does sell prepackaged kits. You can go to their web site at www.redcross.org.
