Major accident on South First Street in Lufkin

LUFKIN (KTRE) - Rescue teams responded to an accident early Thursday afternoon on South First Street in front of Mercer Honda.

The accident involved an 18 wheeler auto transport truck and a pickup.

Both vehicles were heading north on South First Street, when the driver of the transport truck, Manfred Piazza of Conroe, attempted to turn into the Honda dealership from the left lane.

The 18-wheeler turned into the path of the pickup, causing the collision.

The hauler's fuel tank was damaged, but there were no major fuel leaks.

The driver and passenger of the smaller truck, Nila Boddie and Vanessa Peebles, both of Lufkin, were transported to Memorial Hospital.

As of  Friday afternoon, Boddie was still listed in critical condition in the ICU, but Peebles had been discharged.

No charges have been filed.
