LUFKIN, TX(KTRE) - During the last few weeks TXDOT has been upgrading the Angelina and Neches River railroad bridge.
Some lane closures have created minor traffic in the area. For the most part though traffic has been able to drive under it as crews replace beams and raise the bridge.
Some drivers have voiced concerns about the safety of the structure but TXDOT says if it weren't safe, the road wouldn't be open. Engineer, David Collmorgen with TXDOT says, "If they raise it three or four inches on the end, they put something underneath that where if something happened to the jack it wouldn't fall all the way back down to where it came from. As you raise it you keep putting stuff underneath it. You don't just raise it up and put the pedestal under."
