A.C. softball makes history

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -  It was a busy day for Angelina College softball.  Friday morning head coach Chrystal Vega held her second open tryouts.   Then team made history.

The Lady Roadrunners have started to build their roster.  The first commitment in the history of the program signed Friday afternoon.  Jenna Richardson comes to A.C. from Cleburne High School.  Coach Vega spotted Richardson at a tournament in Colorado.

"I just saw it as a great opportunity for me to help coach Vega and start up the program up," Richardson says.  "I know it's going to be tough the first year, but once we get everything settled we'll be pretty good."

Thanks to open tryouts, A.C. will be announcing the signing of five more players next week. Included in that list are Central's Amber Jones and Hudson's Casey Arriola.

"We're having a great turnout for the tryouts," Vega says.  "We had 18 in the first one, 11 in the second one, so we're really excited."

The team will start practice in the fall.
