LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - New automatic sliding doors at the main entrance of the courthouse have created handicap accessibility that hasn't been available in the past.

The doors are located right by the handicap parking spots and the ramp, making it convenient for those who need it. County Judge Wes Suiter says the new doors were installed to make the courthouse more handicap accessible.

Another recent change at the courthouse is the new security system. The front door is the only entrance the general public can enter through.

At first, not everyone was on board with the new scanning system but Judge Suiter says most people are accustomed to it now.

He explained that in the future, the hope to also be able to have the front doors monitored by a security guard. That will all depend on if they can fit it into the budget.
