Living in Texas just got cheaper!

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A recent "Tax Foundation Study" released Thursday says Texas tax payers have one of the lowest tax burdens in the country.

In the Lone Star State, only 8.63% percent of people's total income goes to taxes, like for food, property and retail taxes.

Texas has consistently been at the lower end for the past 30 years.

Jim Wehmeier, the Director of the Lufkin/Angelina Economic Development says, "That's not surprising. It's been that way for quite some time. Texas, the last 5 years has been named the top business climate in the United States. And that is largely due to our low tax burden."

New Jersey tax payers bear the heaviest burden with an 11.8% rate.  Alaska residents paid the least with 6.4%.
