Police Confiscate An Assault Rifle From Teen

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE)- PoliceResponded to a scary situation today after a call comes in for a child playing with a loaded AK-47 rifle in the front yard of his home.

Lufkin Police got a call from a man who was coming to the home to repossess a car.

When officers arrived they found a 13 year old boy playing with a loaded 100 round magazine AK-47 assault rifle.

The boy's parents were not home at the time, but he was babysitting his younger siblings. Officers say the boy said the rifle belongs to his father and he left it laying around. The children were not taken into custody but the rifle was confiscated by police.

The parents could be facing criminal charges, not for having the gun but for having the gun where the child could get to it. The case is under investigation.
