Lufkin school tax staying at the same rate

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The tax rate for the Lufkin Independent School District will not be going up.

Superintendent Roy Knight says that the board is looking to keep the proposed tax rate the same at $1.04, and he feels that it will not change for at least a couple of years.

Knight also says that the only thing that will change is the amount you pay if your property was appraised for a higher amount.

The downside, according to Knight, is that not all the money stays locally.  Some tax money goes to the State because of the way the system has been set up.
