Blueberries Bring Big Business

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Blueberry Festival has come and gone but local businesses haven't forgotten the impact it had on their sales.

The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce has tallied the numbers and this years festival brought an estimated 16,000 people downtown. That's nearly 20 percent more than the past two years.

Wal-Mart saw a 20 percent increase in sales and there was an 80 percent occupancy rate with the hotels in the area. The total economic impact is estimated at more than a million dollars in just the one weekend the festival was held.
