Lufkin lending money for Whitehouse Bridge Project

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Whitehouse bridge project is on hold Tuesday because of the rain, but City of Lufkin and TxDOT officials are still working hard behind the scenes to make sure it's finished on time.

Money for the Whitehouse Extension Project is on Tuesday's city council agenda.

The total cost is $4.5 million and the city has already spent $2.3 million.

Some $500,000 is needed right now to continue.  So instead of delaying the project, the City of Lufkin is forwarding the money until TxDOT can reimburse them.

City Manager Paul Parker says it sounds complicated, but it's not.

"Those funds have not been received, so this is an internal auditing position to let us authorize additional city funds to be used momentarily until we get TxDOT reimbursement."

The Whitehouse bridge project is nearing completion and is not expected to go over the four-point-five million dollar budget.
