Gang Graffiti in Lufkin

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Some local "artists" have spray painted the old Sam's building.  A man weed-eating Friday morning discovered the writing on the wall.  Police believe the "tagging" happened overnight.

We spoke to a crime prevention expert who advised us not to show the graffiti.

Lufkin Police say it was the work of gang members, who are really in their words, "just wannabe's."  But, officers say they are taking this crime seriously.

Statistics from Angelina Beautiful Clean say to clean up graffiti quickly, because that way the "spray painters" are less likely to do it again.

"Studies have shown if you remove graffiti within 24-48 hours, there's almost a zero recurrence.  That's why when you do see graffiti, report it and try to get rid of it as quickly as possible."

The damage to the building is estimated at about $750.00.

The owner of the building will be responsible, unless the criminals are caught.

If you have any information about who could be responsible, call the Lufkin Police Department, or if you don't want to give your name call Lufkin Crime Stoppers.
