LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Volunteer Auxiliary raised almost $100,000 last year and donated $26,000 of it to the Women and Children's Center.
That money bought two infant warmer/resuscitators. They keep babies warm and give oxygen in an innovative way that is better for newborns, especially if they are sick.
With these two additions, plus one purchased with hospital funds, the maternity ward now has incubators in each labor and delivery room, c-section room and infant nursery.
The Volunteer Auxiliary President, Don Newland, says they are happy to help if it means better care for their patients.
"I'm retired from the military and my wife is an R.N. It just does a world of good for me to be able to give back to the local community."
Most of the money raised for the hospital comes from the gift shop.
