Bidding ready to start for Cassels-Boykin Park

By Mystic Matthews

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Commissioners approved Phase 1 of the Cassels-Boykin Park.  Now all they need is a contractor to build it.

Contract bidding will officially open September 16th, allowing interested parties to bid for the job.

Bidding closes September 23rd.

Lake Enhancement planners are hoping for construction to start as soon as a bid had been awarded.

Cassels-Boykin Park directors are excited for this project that has been in the planning stages for over a decade.

"It makes Rayburn more accessible. There are no fishing piers on the lake and we just want to see families get out again.  So that's why there will be nice rest rooms and fishing pier," says James Slack, Chairman of the Lake Enhancement Task Force, with the Angelina County Chamber.

The first phase will include a boat ramp, a 100-spot parking lot and security lighting.  Once that is complete, the next plans are to build a pavilion and rest rooms.

The pavilion will be able to host large parties for weddings.

The first phase is expected to be complete by the spring of 2009.

Donations are still needed. Call the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce at (936) 634-6644.
