ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County airport has been approved to have planes come in and out to transport evacuees.
Today this C 130 flew into the airport so the crew could determine whether or not the runway could handle the plane. It will be used to transport evacuees if needed during a hurricane.
The plane can hold nearly a hundred people and also has a spot for cots in case injured people need to be transported.
Airport Manager, Randy Carswell explains, "Now it's wait and see. We don't know that they'll actually come in and do this if a hurricane threatens the coast of Texas and an area where it's most efficient to bring them to Lufkin to evacuate persons from the coast, then they'll do that."
