Officials will be out Labor Day weekend patrolling the streets

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Labor Day weekend is here and local law enforcement is out to make sure motorists are safe.

Traffic is already starting to increase for the holiday weekend, but thanks to the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, or STEP, more officers will be out as well.

They do this several times a year during busy weekends.

The purpose is to crack down on people who are breaking traffic laws and to keep those people off the streets.

Lufkin PD, Nacogdoches PD, DPS and TXDot are all involved in this program.

No matter where you drive in East Texas this weekend, officials will be out.
