Jumboscreen ads give money back to kids at Lufkin High

By Mystic Matthews

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin High School Sideliners is a non-profit group.  They sale ads on the jumboscreen for Panther football games and with the money they raise, they help send kids to college.

Every year, four $1,000 scholarships are given to students.  The athletic department also gets funds to help by equipment for the students.

"The neat thing is Abe Martin is the only stadium in Angelina County that you can get 9,000 people together at one time. It's the only venue large enough. The advertisers understand that and we are in the business to help kids and all the money goes back to the kids to help our athletic teams," says Head Football Coach John Outlaw.

Before the jumboscreen was built three years ago, signs were purchased and put on the fences.

The amount of funds raised was very limited.  But now, the money raised totals several thousand each year.
