From the Lufkin Police Department...
Lufkin is currently experiencing a significant increase in traffic along highways 59 and 69, coming from south of Lufkin. Traffic is likely to only get heavier as the day goes on due to the evacuees from areas south of Lufkin. We encourage local motorists to use less traveled roadways to access local destinations when possible.
As part of the traffic management plan, traffic on College Drive / (FM 819) is currently being diverted either north or south on Hwy 59 depending on their direction of travel.
Traffic going south on college will be directed south on 59.
Traffic going north on FM819 will be directed north on 59.
