Natural gas spewing in Tenaha

TENAHA, TX (KTRE) - The City of Tenaha is getting an eye-full of spewing gas.

A drilling rig operated by s-e energy hit a gas zone Wednesday and sent natural gas is spewing in the air.

Crews on the scene tell us they were drilling when the gas started rising to the surface so fast, it has nowhere to go, but up.

Officials say the situation is under control.

They also say the underground water system is not in danger of contamination and there is no immediate danger for anybody in the area.

Safety monitors are checking the air quality every 15 minutes to be sure the area stays safe.

No workers were injured and the scene is expected to be back to normal in the next few days.
