Trinity Co. hit hard by Ike, many still without power

By Mystic Matthews

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Trinity County is recovering as is everyone else, but officials say they were hit pretty hard by Ike.

Friday in Groveton, trucks were on hand at the courthouse giving out supplies to citizens.

Most of the people in Groveton and the rest of the county are still waiting on power to come back on.

The bank across the street just got electricity Friday morning.

Trees are down on power lines and that is really affecting everyone else.  However the county judge says crews are working to fix that.

"They are working on them. I don't think I have ever in my life seen the number of power crews moving through the county.  There are a lot of resources that are moving through the area," says Trinity County Judge Mark Evans.

Crews were out along Highway 94 Friday, sawing the trees that fell on power lines.

Once that is complete, crews should be able to start restoring power to more of Trinity County.
