Brazos Transit District

News Release:

WASHINGTON , D.C. - U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Texas' senior Senator, today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the Brazos Transit District $915,750 to replace aging buses in Lufkin, The Woodlands and Bryan / College Station.

"This grant will help improve our transportation infrastructure and make bus travel safer and more reliable for thousands of East Texans," said Sen. Hutchison.

According to the DOT, the funds will be used to purchase Mobile Data Terminals and 10 light duty buses as replacements for the current fleet operating in Lufkin and The Woodlands.  Bryan / College station will also replace its light-duty vehicles with medium-duty vehicles.

Sen. Hutchison is also an original cosponsor of The Motorcoach Enhanced Safety Act of 2007, which would mandate the use of seatbelts on all motorcoaches, require the DOT to upgrade federal safety standards applicable to motorcoaches and take action to improve the operational requirements of drivers and companies
