National Forest Wildlife Management Areas Reopen

News Release:

AUSTIN, Texas - In the wake of Hurricane Ike, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced closure of public hunting on several national forests that contain state wildlife management areas, which have since reopened.

  • The Angelina National Forest, including Bannister Wildlife Management Area (Unit #903, has reopened.
  • Portions of the Davy Crockett National Forest, including Alabama Creek Wildlife Management Area (Unit #904), are set to reopen Sep. 27.
  • Sam Houston National Forest Wildlife Management Area (Unit #905) remains closed until further notice.

    Current information on public hunts cancelled and wildlife management areas closed because of Ike is on the TPWD Web site http://tinymce.moxiecode.cp/mce_temp_url. Anyone can also phone the TPWD Wildlife Information Hotline during regular business hours at (512) 389-4505.
