Lufkin's blood center needs donations after storm

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Hurricane Ike didn't just blow over trees and bring power lines down. It also brought our area's blood supply to critical levels.

The Carter Blood Center says although they didn't lose any units of blood during the storm, they were closed for almost a week and that means people couldn't donate that entire time.

One unit of blood can save three lives, so the blood center asks that anyone who can donate to please do.

The Blood Center in Nacogdoches once had a blood shortage. But officials say Thursday, the problem corrected itself with extended operational hours and blood drives at businesses.
