NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) Kenneth Charles was the man at Hightower High School. He was a three letterman and team MVP. Charles had 15 sacks his senior season. But coaches weren't focused on his stats, just his measurements.
"I had a couple of options," Charles says. "But I didn't really get offered. I wasn't highly recruited because of my size actually."
Charles jumped at a chance to walk on a S.F.A. Listed at 240 pounds, he's undersized for a defensive tackle.
"People say I'm too small to do this," Charles says with a laugh. "I use that as motivation. I may be undersized for a defensive tackle, but it's all good. I play like a 300 pounder."
His coaches agree. The former walkon is now a starter under scholarship. Charles had a career game on Saturday leading the Jacks with ten tackles.
