History professor receives honor

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Stephen F Austin State University history professor Dr. Bobby Johnson first began working with reel to reel audio recordings. Then it was cassettes. Now it's digital recording.   No matter the method used, Johnson's oral history collections that cover four decades are noted as exceptional contributions to preserving East Texas history.

Today Johnson received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Oral History Association. His recordings are now in the East Texas Research Center in the SFA Library. The oral historian said,  " I did an interview yesterday, yeah, I'll always do some interviewing. Of course, I think the main reason I got this award is because I use this material to produce plays about East Texas. "   His latest, and fourth play in a series will be performed at the Lamp-Lite Theatre in Nacogdoches in mid February.
