LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Texas State Forest Festival is for sure the main attraction in East Texas this time of year. With alligators and fried food, what else could you ask for?
"We've had a lot of fun and really like the people. We watched the chainsaw carving and that was really fantastic. That guy is good," says Val and Herb Nolan, who came all the way from California.
"Oh, I think it's great. We've had a great time. It's not as big as the California State Fair, but it's nice and personal," says Nolan.
The Forest Festival has something for everyone; booths for shopping, carnival rides for the young and young at heart, more deep fried food than you've ever seen and don't forget the alligators!!
"We've come and brought our kids ever since they were in strollers; for about 24 years now, so we've been coming for a long time. And my favorite show this year is the alligator show," says Pam Kirtley.
She and her husband own Texas Shaved Ice. They are usually set up at the mall, but this year their customers encouraged them to try selling their treats at the fair.
"They suggested we come out here, so we tried it and we've seen a lot of our customers out here," says Kirtley.
And luckily the weather has been great.
"The weather has been beautiful. We thought it was going to be hot, but the weather has been really beautiful," says Nolan.
The Nolan's have been visiting for the last two weeks, which means they got to see what a hurricane left behind. But they're still enjoying the lone star state.
"Why not, we wanted to experience everything that's Texas. We love Texas, it's a great state," says Nolan.
