(Nacogdoches, TX) A.L Mangham Jr. Regional Airport is gearing up for the 2nd Annual Ready for Take-off! Open House to be held 10a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, October 4. The event will kick-off with a Color Guard Ceremony and the National Anthem, to be led by Mary Ann Oglesby. A wide variety of aircraft will be on display, and visitors will have an opportunity to see them up close. The Open House will feature a remote control aircraft demonstration, live music by the Drag Strip All Stars, Lufkin Crime Stoppers Band and The Army 741 (formerly Salvations Army). Stephen F. Austin State University's KSAU radio station will be broadcasting live. During the event there will also be free T-shirts given away, discounted aviation fuel and a variety of food vendors. Admission to the event is free and open to all.
Several public safety static displays, including City of Nacogdoches fire equipment, police cruiser, SWAT vehicle and the emergency management mobile command trailer, will be on hand. Other public safety agencies are expected to participate, and weather permitting and no emergency situations occurring, the Texas Department of Public Safety should have one of its helicopters here. Texas Air National Guard are expected to have static displays at the event - including a UH 60 Black Hawk helicopter.
"We hope the public will come and share the adventure of flying with us," Airport Advisory Board Chair Rusty Rust said. "This is a chance to view the world of pilots who fly for business or personal transportation, or just plain fun. The Open House will be an exciting opportunity for anyone, young or old, who has ever been interested in flying."
