Lufkin Police want to notify local motorists and our out of town guests from Galena Park attending this Friday's football game about the closure of Loop 287 that will occur during the game and affect anyone wanting to go south from the stadium after the game.
Loop 287 will be closed at 8pm Friday for the Tulane Street bridge demolition and it will remain closed all night. This means motorists coming from Galena Park and south Lufkin can use Loop 287 to get to Abe Martin Stadium before the game but Loop 287 will be closed in both directions when the game ends.
Traffic on Loop 287 will be routed along access roads during the closure and anyone traveling in the area should expect delays and watch for police officers directing traffic. Routing the heavy volume of football traffic along the access road will likely cause delays and we ask motorists to be patient or seek alternate routes that don't involve south Loop 287 or South First (Bus. Hwy 59). Several Lufkin Police officers will be directing traffic along the route and at Hwy. 59 (S. First Street) and Loop 287.
While the Tulane St. bridge is expected to be out for over a year, Loop 287 is expected to open back up Saturday morning.
