NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - At first, officers feared a Nacogdoches teenage girl had been killed in a pedestrian accident. They're relieved tonight, as is her family, that she's expected to recover from the serious injuries. Spray paint marks the spot on farm to market road 225, just west of the loop, where Kayla Luman was hit. Investigating officers say the Nacogdoches High School freshman was in the roadway when a compact S-U-V came over the hill, and hit her. Officers say vehicle speed was not a factor. Luman was approaching a bus stop. Other students witnessed the accident. It happened in darkness around 6:45 this morning. Luman has a broken jaw and multiple other injuries, but she is expected to recover.
