LISD Board Members pass waiver for missed school

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin ISD School Board met Thursday night and on the agenda, what to do about the missed school days during Ike.

The state is allowing school districts up to ten days for the storm, but Lufkin only needed six.

The school board approved the waiver application to be sent the state.

Along with that waiver comes compensation for employees who didn't work.

Superintendent Roy Knight says teacher salaries will not be affected because of Ike.

Also on the agenda was approval for the maximum amount to spend on the new high school auditorium.

The auditorium was voted on during the previous bond election.

Just at $8.63 million has been set aside for the project, which will seat about 850 people.
