Meals On Wheels gets financial support from county

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Meals on Wheels in Nacogdoches will finally be able to apply for a badly needed grant to keep the program running.   The county commissioners approved giving the program $2,200. The money was needed to obtain monthly grant funds through the department of agriculture. The court gave its approval after County Attorney Jeff Davis was thoroughly convinced the donation wasn't breaking any state statues.

Meals On Wheels Board Chair Greg Sowell is now hopeful the program won't be stretched so much for funding.   Sowell said, " Without being overly optimistic we hope we get that grant. And that will help us, along with the money we receive from detcog today to be able to supplement some of the these outlying satellite feeding areas. We were losing on an average of $4000 a month of deficit. "   Deep East Texas Council of Governments presented a $10,000 check to the program, along with a $500 check from an individual.
