Halloween Chili

Lufkin (KTRE) - Amazon women, gun toting cowboys, hatchet carrying "man-eaters", those are some of the costume clad people parading the ground floor at Memorial Health Systems on this Halloween day.

Every year at this time, the hospital holds a chili contest.  Each department puts together a team, cooks their favorite "secret" chili recipe and comes up with decorations to showcase it.  Then a group of hospital administration, doctors, media representatives and other volunteers gets together to taste and judge the chili and costumes.

The scoring is on a scale of one to five with five been "great."  Plaques are given for the first, second and third place chili winners, a showmanship award for the best of show, and an employee's choice award judged by the entire hospital staff.

The winners are:

First Place - ICU

Second Place - Sodexo

Third Place - Wilson McKewen Rehabilitation Center

Employee's Choice - Respiratory

Showmanship - Acute Rehabilitation

Marketing Director Yana Ogletree says it's all in good fun.  She says the annual event is popular among employees and it helps build teamwork and morale.
