NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Today over 50 volunteers rallied together for the Speak Up for Kids CASA 5K and Kids K Fun Run.
Since 8 o'clock this morning volunteers from the Nacogdoches community including SFA, Nacogdoches High School, Head Start and other local organizations, put their running shoes on and ran around town bringing awareness to the community about the importance of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children).
Jana Redfield, the Race Director of the CASA 5K Fun Run said that CASA is all about "giving a voice to children that might not otherwise have a voice". She told KTRE that "these are kids that are coming out of situations, home lives, where they might have experienced abuse, or mental abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and that these children are between the courts and foster care".
